And quote-notes exist here, how nifty. Right. I usually see profiles as a way for other players to be able to go back and remind themselves who the character is, and for the creator to get a feel for how they should write them and what to keep in mind. But they needn't be very long, since as you say, a lot isn't actually necessary for the roleplay. We could have a profile sheet for people to fill out if they want, but things like history is simply optional for those who want to write more? Okay, that works. Oh, a hover thingy! I hadn't seen that, it is good. Ah, yes I meant keeping the profiles in the journal/TDF-threads/etc subforum, not with the journals specifically. Like so: (I'm overusing the spoiler tag.)
General - General Discussion - News and Announcements - Roleplayer Profiles
Communication - Character Profiles - Hunter Journals - TDF threads - (things as requested for monsters/demons/angels/etc) - Calls/email/long-distance communication - Help Wanted
United States - (us subforums)
Alternate planes - Heaven - Hell - Purgatory
Non-US Countries - countries as-needed But eh, maybe it's just simpler to do as you first said and make the profiles a separate Profile subforum. I need to give myself a quote note. It's for Science. Quote noting myself didn't work. Someone do something that gives me a notification.

Someone do something that gives me a notification. DONE. oh, i actually don't mind that layout at all! that kind of stuff is all in the sort of gray area between in character roleplaying and out of character chatting so grouping it all together still sits well with my sense of logic. and we might still do the RPer profiles as a sub subforum with that organization, since i reckon they won't be something you need to quick-reference frequently like the character profiles might be, and then we have all the profiles together. General - General Discussion - News and Announcements
Communication - Character Profiles --> Roleplayer Profiles - Hunter Journals - TDF threads - (things as requested for monsters/demons/angels/etc) - Calls/email/long-distance communication - Help Wanted
United States - (us subforums)
Alternate planes - Heaven - Hell - Purgatory
Non-US Countries - countries as-needed re: character profiles, i'm not very good at making those things up from scratch, so if someone else can whip one up i can help organize and critique! but the initial sort of... producing and knowing what information should be included in a profile thing has always escaped me, haha.

Perfect, thank you! Now the notes are rounder and yellow-y. It goes better to the theme, I think. Of course, it goes without saying that if I make changes anyone's not happy with it's just to change it or tell me so I'll change it. Especially if things becomes hard to read on your computers and stuff. That layout looks good to me! I have an example one, but TJ said she had some saved, which might be better. {Spoiler}Name:
Gender/pronouns:
Species/profession: (I grouped them together because Hunters aren't a species but it would go here? I don't know.)
Age:
Appearance:
Personality:
History:
Other/notes:
And obviously things would be more or less optional. Name and at least a sentence on appearance are useful, history is less so.
Good news! We can change these little icons into pictures of our choice. There's a lot of them so it should probably not be something we focus on, but their colourfulness have been bugging me. It could be good if they are more SPN-like. I've been trying to draw replacements, but simplistic pictures are hard. So does anyone want to take charge and make them? TJ?

so far i'm liking these colors you're adding to the forum; great job! :D my one immediate query is that in the old gray/white color scheme we had every other post being a slightly different color-- half being white and half being off-white/light grey; did you get rid of that for a particular reason? i don't think it's even a little bit necessary but it was a bit of a change so i just wondered. other things i think might need to be manually gone in and fixed, like for instance the quote/edit/etc buttons on posts. mind if i dive in at some point and rummage around/see if i can unify all the button colors and such, or do you have plans to do that as well?
ssssssooooooo it doesn't look like anyone's written code to auto-disable smilies, which is a bit of a pain but also kinda understandable considering proboards v5 has only been out since, what, late january? so what i ended up doing was manually going in and adding everything our forum recognizes as a smiley code to the censored words list so that the code goes in and comes out with [] noubbc tags to disable the smiley from happening. hopefully in the future there'll be a proper auto-disable, but for now this bandaid will do i hope!

Thanks! Nah, the only reason I got rid of it was because I accidentally made the secondary background too dark to read on, so I just changed them to the same colour for simplicity. I can change it when I come back to my computer, because it did make posts a bit easier to read. Sure, go ahead! I don't have any plans exactly, as long as things go well together I'm happy. :)

RE icons: Elsie that is the cutest icon evah, ohmygawd. <3 Eesh, I've never been great with pixel art, but I can see what I come up with. I was thinking for the folder we could have a beat-up looking journal... like John Winchester's journal C: But I'm not so sure about the other one... is that a poll icon? RE profiles: Oh good... I'm kinda glad that we don't want to fill out huge character sheets. I agree that it would take a bit too long, and if most of the history of the character ends up being in the roleplay they do tend to get outdated quickly. It's a nice reference point, though. Here is a fairly deatailed one I have from a while ago: {Spoiler- click to read} (Picture can be added here) GENERAL Name: Nickname: Birthdate: Age: Species: Gender/Pronouns:
APPEARANCE Eye color: Hair color: Skin color: Clothing: Accessories: Other:
PERSONALITY
HISTORY
EXTRA Possessions: Notable Family/Relations: Trivia: Other: Feel free to go ahead and edit/suggest other sections or what have you C: (also, thank you for disabling smilies) Attachments:

HELLO EVERYONE I HAVE NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO ADD BUT HELLO.
EDIT, Okay so maybe I do. For the character sheet template, that I notice there is none~
[optional image]
Character Name: Gender: Age:
Species: (Hunter, human, demon, angel etc)
Optional Daemon space: Name: Gender: [Settled] Form: Daemon personality:
Appearance: [2paragraphs min?] Personality: [2 paragraphs min?] History: [ 1 paragraph min?]
That's pretty basic and lowkey, :@ I can't think of what else would be important in it.

TJ: You don't have to of course, but if you feel like it. :) I like the idea of the journal! It'll go great with the forum background. Ah, actually there's more of them, because there's different variations of each. Here's the number of thread icons that exist. It's easier to make a basic one and then just change it slightly to fit all the options. And then there's these, but I suspect half of them don't need to be changed. It's just the ones that are clearly clashing with the theme of the forum. Oh, these pictures are very small... Maybe it'd be easier to make you an admin too, so you can go and check and change the ones you want whenever? (Picture can be added here) GENERALName: Nickname: Birthdate: Age: Species: Gender/Pronouns: APPEARANCEEye color: Hair color: Skin color: Clothing: Accessories: Other: PERSONALITYHISTORY
EXTRAPossessions: Notable Family/Relations: Trivia: Other: [optional image] Character Name: Gender: Age: Species: (Hunter, human, demon, angel etc) Optional Daemon space: Name: Gender: [Settled] Form: Daemon personality: Appearance: [2paragraphs min?] Personality: [2 paragraphs min?] History: [ 1 paragraph min?] Yes, good, both of these are good. AH! TJ, I missed this! It's great!

tj, the little journal is sooooooooo cute!! i can't wait to have those instead of the folder icons. <3
i thiiiiiiiiink i'm slightly more fond of tj's character sheet format than steve's, but i tend to like being told what to do rather than having to make it up as i go, so of course i'd like the less open-ended format more, haha. :P maybe a combination form would be good? i do like steve's optional daemon section.
btw, the spoiler code is a lil wonky; if you just type [] spoiler [/] spoiler without clicking the button or typing in an extra "title" it'll show up better as a link-- you'll notice in my post earlier if you hover over "SPOILER: Click to show" it'll change colors to denote that it's a link but anything with a custom title won't do that. i'm gonna work on fixing that (maybe adding bold or something) but jsyk in the meantime. fixed this! use custom titles to your heart's desire and they should show up mostly properly as links now. they don't have the lovely color change of regular links here but i don't know if i can get into the nitty gritty of the plugin code and change that. this'll definitely do for now; at least they aren't hiding any more!
edit: elsie, i changed a color in our color scheme so the borders inside posts are brown instead of grey; the original grey is e6e6e6 if you want to change it back. C:

Thanks, that's great! I've been meaning to do that but couldn't find the right place to change.
And you have changed the thread summary to last-post-first for when we're writing a new post? That's so much better. I'm really liking how the subforums are coming along too, this is starting to look a proper roleplaying forum now! :)

Wow you guys are productive! Everything looks awesome. :3 Can I request that we have Canada as a country already there? If I'm playing my SP/MoG self, I'll be in Canada. XD Also, feel free to let me know if I can do anything!

BAM. CANADA. let me know if you want it subdivided/a separate category like the US instead of a board under non-us countries/etc! i know canada's a pretty big country, haha. and yeah i have you added as an admin so feel free to hop into the admin control panel and see what you might like to fuss with! i don't have anything specific i can think of but if you want to poke around and see if you spot anything we haven't touched on yet that's rad.
yesss, i'm glad you noticed that elsie! it's something that bugs me when i see it in forums so i jumped on the chance to fix it, but i didn't think it was big enough to specifically post an announcement about it. we're well on our way! honestly we could start roleplaying tomorrow if we wanted to, but i love the idea of making tweaks and making sure everything's PERFECT for a week before we get started.
edit: added a little send pm button in the miniprofile; it's not SUPER NECESSARY especially since there's an option under the little gear thing to send a pm, but i thought it would be convenient to have. :3

AAah Wow look at the pro boards! This looks beautiful! I have such a soft spot for tertiary colors and this takes the cake. Mmhmm, and so easy on the eyes. *w* 10/10 strongly approve of everything.

Yeah, the layout and colors look great! *v* I don't know if this has been covered yet, but are there going to be any rules or guidelines about what each post should be like? :0 I know some roleplay groups will request at least a certain number of sentences, stuff like that. Everybody on TDF is pretty good about spelling, capitalization, and grammar, so we don't really have to worry about that. It's probably already a given, but I think everything should be in 3rd person, unless it's journal entries or texts or something like that. *flutters away*

I'm glad you like it! :) Okay, I finished a header and went ahead and added it. Tell me if you want something changed in it or if you rather want something else entirely.
I think as long as the posts have proper spelling and grammar, and aren't just one short sentence, it should be alright.
