proboards allows you to change your display name without changing your username so feel free to join with your regular username and then change the display name whenever you have a primary character in mind. :] and also feel free to make multiple accounts for your multiple characters, just make sure they're easily traceable to you!
i'm going to start fussing with coding and stuff asap; right now my focus i think is going to be on auto-disabling smilies and creating some sidebar input options that allow you to identify yourself as a roleplayer (e.g. if my character name is malk that's my display name but underneath it i have 'kheisa' listed so you know it's me etc) and what species your character is bla bla bla. edit: just discovered it forces you to choose a binary gender. fixing that is on my to-do list.
if you guys have suggestions for how to break up the forums for organization, let me know! i'm thinking it might be good to have at least one major subforum for character profiles and roleplayer profiles (that would link to individual character sheets, say what things you like or don't like to roleplay, mention any plots you might have in mind, stuff like that), and maybe one for tdf-style monster/demon hunting tip threads, but beyond that i'm open to suggestions. should we organize it by state? by region? idk! your call. reminder that there are lots of subcategories possible with a boards setting, so i could just have a group of subforums called "US: the south" where each subforum is a state considered part of the south in the united states, and each subforum can have little bitty subforums linked on the main page for further subdivision.
YEAH POST GO NUTS MY NAME IS KHEISA AND I WILL BE YOUR CAPTAIN FOR THIS EVENING.

Elsie here, reporting for roleplaying duty! I'd love to assist with the coding, if I get the powers. Also, if it is possible to change the header, and we want something more unique, I have the whole day tomorrow free, so I could make some kind of header-art-work and so?
As for subforums character profiles and roleplayer profiles sounds like a good idea. My sister, who is also interested in joining, had an idea that there might be a "Hunter Journal" subforum, probably most useful for non-daemian Hunter characters. I quote:
I assume daemian hunters would have pretend-TDF-threads to talk about such things. And monsters can also have some kind of equivalent?
Organizing by state sounds fun, but might become a bit too big and complicated if we're not so many roleplayers? I don't know how many are interested by now?
But yay, this is exciting! I have to decide on characters.

ooh, that's definitely a good idea! i reckon we as daemians or hunters will definitely have access to bobby, garth, or some sort of bobbygarth figure to help match hunters with hunts in their area and with other hunters in the event that help is required. the hunter journal subforum would also be great if you wanted to have some character growth but not write it all out, or if you wanted even to add a page in hindsight that someone might read going through your journal, etc. :3 that would be really great to go alongside the fake tdf subforum for organizing tips and tricks for defeating x type of monster!
i'm actually now going through and rereading what you've written and i think i misunderstood-- i still think some subforums JUST for journals and JUST for tdf monster hunter entries would be good, just for fun sort of self-contained organizational stuff, but what we might also do (rather than require every member to read every journal in case of suggested plot) is have one that's sort of like a "help wanted" subforum, where you can post a thread summarizing your plight, maybe type out summaries of some newspaper clippings or your journal entry or news clips about the winchesters or whatever, to broadcast that you're looking for someone to roleplay this with you, and then someone or more than one person with an appropriate character can respond and you can set up how the characters get together (the bobby figure maybe, or the other character/s has seen the same omens or news clips etc) and then get to roleplaying! C:
perhaps instead of organizing by state, we could just organize by region? big forum section for "united states," then subforums for "northeast," "south," "midwest," etc, and we could just list the location of the roleplay somewhere in the thread-- maybe "[GA] (title of thread)" or if i could code in those little subtitles they have on other proboards sites we could have "(title of thread)" and below it "(city, state)." the region organization would also allow us to easily break out of just united states geography if we wanted to have big plot points in other countries.

Great! I think my sister originally meant it as separate subforums but a Help Wanted subforum is probably more manageable for roleplaying. I think having both are good.
Organising by region sounds good, and if it is possible to have subtitles that's probably the best option. Should we have a unspecified location subforum, too? For, I don't know, phone calls between characters or such?
So the subforums so far seem to be:
Profiles - Characters - Roleplayers Communication - Hunter Journals - TDF threads - Calls/email/long-distance communication? Places - US --And sub-subforums - Other necessary continents/countries. Depending on how much we'll need them. - Will we need heaven/hell/purgatory and that, you think?
~
Sorry, I missed the latest post. Hi Lauren!
~
Edit added: should we discuss how we want the forum to look? Like colour scheme, pictures and stuff? I found my way to the editing for that but I can't proceed with anything until we've discussed it. I was thinking a browning colour scheme, like leather, because it remind me of Dean's jacket and John's journal and that is apparently what I connect to supernatural as far as colours go. How are you thinking?

browns sound delightful! i'd like to keep it dark font on a lighter background rather than the other way round, but aside from that i have no real specific desires for the layout. brown is good. C:
the way the board layout looks in my head is basically like that, but with a couple tweaks:
Profiles - Character Profiles - Roleplayer Profiles Communication - Hunter Journals - TDF threads - (things as requested for monsters/demons/angels/etc) - Calls/email/long-distance communication (this could even be expanded if we wanted individual forums for email, calls, etc, but probably just one would be best, at least with the limited number of members we'll have now) - Help Wanted (or, um. gosh. classifieds??) United States - (us subforums) Alternate planes (or something) - Heaven - Hell - Purgatory Non-US Countries (or something) - countries as-needed
thoughts?

HELLO DIS BE MOLLY. Brown would be fine for a layout. As long as the text is easy to read, I'm fine. :P

Hi Molly! That board layout looks good to me. Although, I wonder if character- and roleplayer profiles should really share? Seeing as roleplayer profiles are less "in game", maybe they should be in a separate subforum, or maybe share with off-roleplay discussions? I agree that keeping the font darker than the background is a good idea. Really just keeping it black is probably best. I made a "first draft", so to speak. The background and header are stand-ins for when we can get pictures we have the copyright on. I'll probably make the background a bit lighter. _ How tiny that turned out. Well, you can get the idea? I was thinking the header might be a picture of falling angels, since they are so important. Or it might be something daemon-y. Opinions?

iiiiiii LOVE it! we might make an attempt at organizing the banner a bit differently once it's all set up (and, like you said, get pictures we can legally use) but i love the concept; it looks lovely. C: re: profiles, hmm, i'm not sure? perhaps what we can do is have it like this Profiles - Character Profiles --> Roleplayer Profiles my concern there is that then we have this whole section devoted to one subforum-- it's fine, we can totally do it that way, we just need to make sure that's what we definitely want to do. on a completely separate note i've added some plugins that allow you to collapse the quick reply box and the shoutbox if they're cluttering your view, and i'm working on adding some sidebar things and member groups that'll be fun to play with. i was hoping to make the sidebar options group-specific, such that if you're a human you maybe have options for daemon name/form and if you're a monster you have a species field, but right now i think class and subclass will work for a catch-all. you could have hunter class and daemian subclass (or vice versa, one or the other, neither, etc), or keep those both in the class field, and if you're a monster you might have your species as your class and subclass as idk "alpha" or "vegetarian" (for vampires) or etc. edit: testing the spoiler code to see if it works... {this is a spoiler}WOW A SPOILER more spoilers!! so that works! good good good

That looks super good! I like the idea of having the character profiles and roleplayer profiles kept separate, too. Are we going to have to use the spoiler tag for anything that's spoilery about the show?

i'd mostly wanted it for organizational purposes, like how we tend to secret tag / spoiler tag a lot of things on tdf just to keep scrolling to a minimum. so i mean, if you want to tag spoilers about the show, that's fine, but probably unnecessary unless someone specifically requests it. C:

Hiya, it's Sam Winchester TJ :D I approve of everything that's been talked about so far. Beautiful layout, Elsie. I also like the organization of the forums so far, I can't wait to see it all put together. If anyone else needs any other art stuff, I'm willing to lend a hand!
So... I have a question about character profiles (because I'm super excited and already want to start filling it out). Does anyone have a default character profile sheet from a previous RP that is easy to modify for this page specifically? I have a couple, but I'm not so sure how in-depth everyone wants to get. Historically, I've just been required to write a good paragraph of backstory and paragraph of personality, but I'm not sure if that's enough for us TDF folk ;)
...Hardcore mode: we require everyone to fill out entire RAs for each character. XD

Oh goodness I have a hard enough time filling out an entire RA for myself. xD I think one or two good-lengthed paragraphs should be enough? Though I by no means role play regularly, so I'm not entirely sure what the norm is, or how much we'd want to do. And how in-depth would our own profiles have to be? Usually I think the required paragraphs are to make sure that the roleplayer has a good understanding of their character, but I think we know ourselves pretty well, so I don't know how in-depth we would want to get with those. :0

Hi TJ! You can post your profile sheets here and we can see if anything needs to be added/tweaked on them? And I think a paragraph or two with personality and one back story should be enough. When I talked to my sister about this and told her most roleplayers would come from TDF, she said "Oh no, they are going to make me write RAs for my characters, aren't they?" Molly, when you talk about our own profiles, I assume you mean the SP/MoG selves, rather than the Roleplayer? To that I think a simple paragraph with backstory and as much personality we can be bothered to write should be enough, since it's more to remind other players who the character is. On a completely separate note i've added some plugins that allow you to collapse the quick reply box and the shoutbox if they're cluttering your view Haha, I saw that symbol and thought "Why haven't I seen this little hat before?" And then clicked it and was mighty startled to realise it was actually an eye and the box disappeared. I was so convinced it was a hat... re: Profile sub forums. I understand how you think. It is probably best to keep them together. To clarify, do you mean that there will be a profile subforum in which to put character profiles, and within that have a roleplayer subforum along side the character profiles? That could work. Another possibility is that we could put the character-profiles along with hunter journals, and roleplayer profiles with out-of-roleplay discussions, and simply not have a collected Profile Subforum. I scanned some pieces of leather I have for backgrounds. Colours can be tweaked, so it's mostly the texture you should look at. HEADS UP: I'm going to start editing the theme now, so if the forum keeps changing it's because of that. I'll save the original code in case something goes wrong, so there's nothing to worry about.

wow, that quote box is so shiny and beautiful *u* re: profiles, i think a lot of what we'll need is what we do, not who we are, if that makes sense? i know i personally always found it tedious having to write out several paragraphs of personality and history, especially when in many cases (i write boring characters) the latter hardly comes into play at all in the actual roleplay. if a history section is to your benefit-- for sp/mog selves it might be, if you want to write out how you responded to the whole thing and whatever happened after self-possessed with you bla bla bla, because a lot of us will want to be making up the last, oh, four or five years of our lives?-- then right on, but for monsters and angels i think a whole in-depth history might be unnecessary. i know i'm going to include some visual description sections on my characters (imagine the apostrophe where you will) profile(s) for major identifying features aaaaand maybe a trivia section with little factoids that don't go elsewhere? stuff you own, people you know, etc etc. re: Profile sub forums. I understand how you think. It is probably best to keep them together. To clarify, do you mean that there will be a profile subforum in which to put character profiles, and within that have a roleplayer subforum along side the character profiles? That could work. Another possibility is that we could put the character-profiles along with hunter journals, and roleplayer profiles with out-of-roleplay discussions, and simply not have a collected Profile Subforum. yep, that's what i meant! last time i made a proboards (lawd i almost just wrote "broboards") site they were both accessible from the main page, just the sub subforum was in smaller font, so hopefully that's still accurate. there's also the fancy dropdown menu if you guys have seen it-- if you hover over "souls and grace" just over the thread title, it gives you a lovely dropdown menu to switch quickly and easily between forums and subforums. i'm not sure i like the idea of having them with the journals, unless you mean having them in a sub subforum with the journals, just because our characters won't all be humans/hunters, and having monster/demon/angel character profiles in with the journals will seem a bit out of place. we could try lots of different organizations (i'm pretty sure this interface lets us just pick up and move a subforum whilst maintaining all the threads it contains) if we're unsure, too. :3 i found a code for a previous version of proboards that allowed you to have several aliases under one username and post with each one individually (would have different sidebar/miniprofile info as well) which would eliminate the hassle of having to log out and back in to post with a different character, so i'm going to see if i can find that for proboards 5. if all goes well we should be able to just stay logged in all the time to our main accounts and post under character aliases for side characters! still trying to find something to auto-disable smilies, too.
