MI
I'm gonna join in a rock and roll band.
I'm gonna camp out on the land.
I'm gonna get my soul free.
GENERAL
Name: Miriam K_ _ _ _
Nickname: Mi [among internet circles], Mim [among family and real-life friends]
Birthdate: 25th January 1998
Age: 15
Species: Human
Gender/Pronouns: Female[-ish]/answers comfortably to any pronouns, most commonly She, her
Then can I walk beside you?
I have come here to lose the smog,
And I feel to be a cog in something turning.
APPEARANCE
Around 5”4 with a solid, somewhat plump frame, a slightly impish face and quite a clumsy, lopsided way of moving, Mi usually looks scruffy, awkward and otherwise unremarkable. She slouches somewhat and moves in a way so uncoordinated as to appear a little comical, particularly when running. Mi’s generally understated facial expressions are outweighed by restless and expressive posture- when speaking she tends to gesticulate wildly and when meant to be static she often shifts her position or fidgets. She speaks with a slight but pronounced lisp which she despises.
Eyes: Appear blue-grey/grey-green depending on the light and the clothing she’s wearing, upon closer inspection they are grey-blue with an amber/gold ring around the pupil.
Hair: Unkempt, curly, mid-brown, cut short. Rarely brushed and washed less frequently than it perhaps ought to be.
Skin: White, fairly tanned-looking, a few spots on her face, particularly n the bridge of her nose and around her hairline.
Clothing: Dresses casually, mostly in block colours of assorted shades of blue and turquoise, but otherwise generally with little regard for her appearance. Tends to wear oversized hoodies and jumpers and trousers that allow for comfortable movement, generally jeans, sweatpants or cargo pants in neutral colours. Has a fondness for collared shirts, particularly larger, men’s ones, generally worn as a jacket over a top or t-shirt. As an observant Jew attending an orthodox synagogue weekly, she also owns a fair number of dresses, skirts and more formal/elegant clothing to wear on these occasions, and she enjoys dressing up with more regard for aesthetics but wouldn’t do so regularly if left to her own devices.
Accessories: Glasses for minor short-sightedness, worn infrequently.
Well maybe it is just the time of year,
Or maybe it's the time of man.
I don't know who I am,
But you know life is for learning.
PERSONALITY
Approximated Personality Types (subject to change, terms and conditions apply): INFJ, 4w5, Ravendor
Self-absorbed, somewhat impulsive, not self-disciplined, indecisive, lazy and unambitious, non-conflict-averse, thick-skinned but prone to existential angst and generally difficult temper, prideful, curious/inquisitive/nosy, vocal, relatively fluid sociability but fiercely loyal to individuals
Plucky Comic Relief particularly in respect to her hunter friends as by comparison her environment is laughably safe and the decisions she herself faces are trivial. Interestingly, she often functions as this even within social-groups outside of the hunting world, due to her tendency to rant, exaggerate, gesticulate wildly and c. She’s mostly aware of this and it’s consistent with her self-perception as she doesn’t really take herself altogether seriously –laughable.
No Social Skills: Exactly What It Says On The Tin, Mi isn’t entirely sure how to behave in most social situations- she’s slow to make friends and her most meaningful interaction is one-on-one, with those she’s known a long time and conversed with a lot. She behaves erratically around strangers and in large groups, generally keeping aloof and observing only to interrupt a conversation she is not part of to contribute information on a subject of interest.
Motor Mouth Mi occasionally talks very quickly and very loud, saying a great deal in a short space of time. In part this is because she has ideas which she wants to share, but often she speaks simply to fill a silence and fulfil her own desire for communication and meaningful interaction. These ranting spells are infrequent, particularly outside of a discussion context, but they do occur and when she’s arguing a certain case she can seem confrontational or particularly convinced when in fact she’s merely stating all the reasons in favour and could speak at equal length against it. At her best, this makes her vocal and communicative, but it can also lead to a tendency to appearing uninterested in others’ viewpoints and also to bore people by going on at length on something they might not share her interest in.
A touch of Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness, occasionally becoming Delusions Of Eloquence which become more apparent the longer you let her talk for. Basically tie in with her self-image as an intelligent person and her propensity to talk a lot of drivel, see Motor Mouth, above.
Encyclopaedic Knowledge (see above, No Social Skills and Motor Mouth)Mi has a tendency to supplement conversations with ideas, factoids and linguistic derivatives, out of habit. This may come across as part of a forced ‘nerdy’ persona but mostly it’s due to a genuine delight in information and a poor conversational filter. She prefers to discuss facts and ideas than her own feelings or experience.
Brilliant But Lazy, Lazy being the operative word here. Mi is often lauded as a good student, in part because of her flare for academic discussion, but usually gets by on doing the bare minimum of work. Outside of school, she rarely undertakes serious projects and even less frequently carries them out to completion, often losing interest due to just plain apathy. She is prone to procrastination and avoidance of tasks which seem too weighty, unpleasant or otherwise intimidating and easily slips into a habit of inactivity.
Bookworm: Exactly What It Says On The Tin, Mi exemplifies this trope very well, to the extent one might suspect her of playing up her love of reading (e.g. when she takes 4 separate reading books into a lesson on top of her pile of classwork on the grounds that she's in the middle of reading all of them and you never know where/when there might be an interval to read) and is remarkably adept at walking-while-reading, considering her general lack of coordination. Despite considering herself a somewhat serious researcher, Mi reads a lot of fiction- some of it fairly pappy -as well as poetry and wide-ranging non-fiction.
Jewish and Nerdy , Jewish Complaining , Jews Love to Argue
The Klutz see 'general lack of coordination' mentioned above, Mi has a tendency to trip over, drop, fumble and mismanage things.
A little of a Wide-Eyed Idealist, she’s uncomfortable with the sheer amount of killing, torturing and maiming which make up the everyday lives of many other TDFers, even though she concedes that it’s necessary for survival and to save innocent people. The uncomfortable facts of the job are one of the main reasons she hasn’t gotten involved with hunting herself, besides her fondness for normal life, the obvious risk to herself and those she cares about and her suspicions that she would be more of a liability than a help. Not-so-secretly, she dreams of legal recognition of monsters and a real, ethically accountable criminal justice system to protect people. She’s also fairly trusting, with a naïve belief in others’ integral decency .
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky,
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation.
HISTORY
Born to hard-working, middle-class parents in the suburbs of a city in the North of England, Mi has always lead a fairly care-free and unremarkable life. She read a lot and, later, cruised the internet a lot. One of these bored Google searches in early 2006 lead to the discovery of the dæmonpage and catapulted her into forum life. There she made some good friends and became a good deal more self-aware, but never really developed her idea of her own dæmon beyond acquiring a slight, insistent guilt about not putting effort into talking to him, so it came almost as no surprise that when the events which swallowed the lives of many other TDf-ers left her unaffected except indirectly. For her there was no pain, no adventure, no death and no resurrection. Neither dæmons nor demons.
She stuck around, of course, endeavouring to help out where she could. At first, this meant mostly looking on with concern as regular posters vanished and reappeared and staring with mute amazement at their accounts of what transpired, but later she learnt to offer calm, reasoned suggestions and to find out about the threats in hand. Mi always had a general, longstanding interest in most things, and since, as a 12 year-old, she found herself surrounded by feedback from crazy, dangerous circumstances, this habit for accumulating and sharing information has become more important to her, causing her to actually devote time to organised research of anything that interests her. As well as making notes on supernatural phenomena from within hunting circles, myths and urban legends in general and speculation on their relation to everyday studies, she also began reading more widely (particularly more non-fiction) and speculating about the rules that govern the miracles she heard about. It isn’t much, but it’s some small degree of involvement and Mi cherishes it.
Her own dæmon, Kasios, remains a whisper of a possibility. Typically, the terrifying Dæmon Manifestation Incident which made the idea of him so dangerous only served to reignite her interest in that potential. Sometimes, indulging a simmering curiosity, she glances at where she thinks he would be and her mind leaps to some flippant comment she supposes he’d make. On those occasions, she looks away as if scalded, or as if she’s caught herself doing something wrong. Or she does usually, at any rate. Sometimes you might catch her smile at the fantastic insanity of the idea.
We are stardust.
Billion year old carbon.
We are golden
Caught in the devil's bargain
EXTRA
Possessions: A turquoise-coloured laptop, somewhat scratched and smeared with several of the letters on the keyboard chipped away by the frequent abrasion of Mi’s long fingernails clattering against them.
House keys. A clay ocarina. A Swiss army knife, handed down from her mother with a pearly enamel coating. A smallish room with a disproportionately large amount of book-shelf space and all the knick-knacks, junk and paraphernalia which you might expect to find in it. Many note-books with her irregular diaries and journals, story ideas, poems and sporadic notes on the facts of demonic possession, assorted sentient life-forms, the afterlife etc.
Notable Family/Relations: Parents: 'Mum' and 'Dad', both aged between 50 and 60, supportive and generally understanding, not informed about supernatural things, Mi reasons that they wouldn’t believe it if they were.
3 brothers: Nat, Mi’s twin, has been told bits and pieces about the developments on TDF in a few spurts of honesty. Cautiously admits the plausibility of a few events when showed evidence which links happenings to real-life events. Wary of the whole thing.
Toby and Sam, twins, aged 12.
TDF friends: on good terms with several forumers. Most notable friendship is with Bizarre/Lori, with whom she converses regularly on skype.
Trivia: The family owns a dog which Mi is considered responsible for, a six-year-old blue roan cocker spaniel named Lady.
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden.
